How it works

Our process

Your journey with us begins with a referral from a healthcare professional, such as your local wheelchair service, who will have identified the need for a custom seating solution. At SOS, we collaborate with wheelchair services throughout the UK to conduct a thorough clinical assessment to ensure any product will meet your exact needs. During this stage, we evaluate your postural and functional requirements, the type of mobility base you use, and the environments you frequent. Advanced techniques like 3D scanning ensure precision, especially for complex cases.

From Specification Through to Delivery

We are here to support you with this experience, every step of the way. With expert care, insight and process, we will deliver a solution that exceeds your needs and is designed for maximum quality of life, comfort and independence.

Specification and Prescription: After your assessment, we develop a detailed specification tailored to you, including size, materials, and positioning supports. Whether you need a modular or custom-moulded system, our designs allow for adjustments like growth accommodations for children. We work closely with your wheelchair service to ensure the prescription aligns with your needs and that funding is in place.

Manufacture and Build: With specifications and funding secured, we get on with crafting your bespoke seating system at our UK facility. Our commitment to local design and manufacture gives us total control over quality and process. For custom seats, methods such as bean-bag moulding or digital scans create a perfect fit. Modular systems are adjusted and assembled with meticulous attention to detail, and every product undergoes rigorous quality testing to meet high standards.

Fitting and Adjustment: Once manufactured, your seating system is delivered and fitted to you. This step ensures the system integrates seamlessly with your mobility base, and adjustments are made for optimal posture and comfort. Our clinicians will confirm fit, check skin integrity, and train caregivers on usage and adjustments.

Review and Follow-Up: Post-fitting, a review period allows us to make necessary adjustments as your needs evolve, particularly for growing children or changing postural requirements. Our goal is to deliver your seating system within a four-week cycle from assessment to supply. We offer guidance on maintenance, cleaning, and monitoring wear and tear, with a product guarantee for peace of mind.

Documentation and Compliance: Rest assured, our seating systems comply with the necessary medical device regulations and transport safety standards. We maintain comprehensive records of each stage from assessment to maintenance.

Practical and Preparation: We take care of everything, including ensuring your assessing clinician is familiar with our range of products and how they fit into your specific environment. We involve all relevant professionals early in the process to ensure seamless integration and a stress free process for you.
